April 3
White Pine parking to Red Pine to Dry Fork to Hogum to Bells out Perlas.
Elevations, slope angles and aspects:
5500-10800'. angles over 35°, all aspects.
Avalanche activity:
Limited to shallow sluffs on sun exposed with day time heating, beginning on ese facing around 11 am. There was one old dry snow slide noted
on the Red Pine ridge exit.
Slopes skied:
Dry Creek off the shoulder of Pfierferhorn, Hogum north facing back bowl, Thunder bowl in Bells , down nw facing and Perlas exit to LCC.
Snow conditions:
There were early morning zipper crusts found at lower to mid elevations on the shady side. Those mostly melted with heating. Dry snow from the last storm, 4-6", was found at upper elevations. West wind from the last few days, left pronounced evidence on some exposed aspects.
Box Elder nw cirque
Day time heating cooked recent snow and wet slides were easily initiated later in the day. Those were shallow, since the underlying crust remains firm and supportable.
Weather:
Clear to partly cloudy skies. Cool temperatures in the morning, warm in the afternoon. Light wind from the west.
Evaluation:
Instabilities were limited to shallow wet activity and a few lingering isolated wind drifts. I'd expect that to remain the case for another day, prior to the cooling, forecast from the approach of the next storm.
